Kerstin Grabe left us in April 2004 for breeding and working with a for her so far unknown species of new parasites, already described as children (Haberl, different studies). This job will take her at least 18 years, for which we would like to wish her good luck for all the approaching experiments.

Martin Kalbe left our lab in June, 2000. He dealt with problems of the miracidial host-finding of Fasciola hepatica, Trichobilharzia ocellata and Schistosoma mansoni. He discovered that miracidia of these species are able to determine their snail host species already during approach to the snail host. He analysed the miracidia attracting glycoconjugates (MAG) and studied heredity of miracidial host-finding specificity using hybrids of specific and non specific S. mansoni strains. He currently works on interactions and coevolution between sticklebacks and their parasites at the Max-Planck-Institute for Limnology, Plön.

Jan Osterkamp also left the group in the year 2000. He worked on the chemical signals that guide hookworms to the body surface of their hosts. Now he tries to find a nice job, but didn´t succeed so far. Please, give this poor guy a chance!

Leuchtturm Karin Stoll left our lab in october, 1998. She worked on the role of arginine in different steps of cercarial host-finding. She has done a great job, however even she could not answer the question why cercariae use arginine as a host-finding signal. At the moment she is the head of an initiative to transfer the Borkum lighthouse to the marketplace in Erfurt.

Martina Körner did a tremendous job on analyzing host-finding behaviour in echinostome cercariae. She finished her PhD and left our lab in summer 1998. She currently works in the computer business.

Ursula Wahl left our lab in october, 1997. In her diploma-thesis, she analysed the questing behaviour of two tick species ( Boophilus microplus and Ixodes ricinus) in reaction to different natural and artificial odour substrates. Ursula will be remembered for her affection to baking (never again cakes like that for our lab :-( ) and the local soccer team SpVGG Greuther Fürth. (The author of this lines suggests you rather visit Schalke 04 or den Club. Ursel will likely stay home for a while, baking solely for her family.

Susanne Steineke left our lab in march, 1997. In her diploma-thesis, she developed new methods of in-field cercariometric research - the first steps on the way to possible real-world applications of our lab findings in cercarial and miracidial host-finding behaviour. Susi now works in the lab of Dr. Schad in Philadelphia on nematode receptors.

Ulrike Ketzer left our lab in march, 1997. In her diploma-thesis, she analysed the fish-host influence on the swimming behaviour of the two fresh-water parasites Ichthyophthirius multifiliis and Sanguinicola sp.. Ulli - oder hieß sie Sabine ? - now travels around to sell drugs for pharmaceutical company.

Sabine Kerschensteiner - oder war es Ulrike Kerschensteiner ?? - left in march 1997, too. She also sells drugs, and she analysed the same parasites as Sa..Ulli - Ichthyophthirius multifiliis and Sanguinicola sp. To be fair, she did analyse different behavioural steps - cercarial reactions near the fish hosts - in her diploma-thesis.

Bernd Heilmann left our lab in april 1997. In his diploma-thesis, he analysed the penetration behaviour of Diplostomum pseudospathaceum.

Dorit and Eric Schoenamsgruber left our group in 1996. Dorit's diploma thesis dealt with contact-chemoorientation of ticks on their host. Eric worked with cercariae of Diplostomum pseudospathaceum . Eric and Dorit are " just married" and living happily near Munich.

Gerold Schmalfuss left our group in 1995. In his diploma-thesis, he analysed enzyme-releasing cues during penetration of schistosomatid cercaria cercariae into their hosts. His doctoral thesis dealt with host finding behaviour of ticks. He is currently working - as is Monika Granzer - at the local PHARMACIA-outpost.

Susanne Woernlein left our group in 1995 and soon became Susanne Ebeling. In her diploma-thesis, she studied host-finding and host-recognition mechanisms of the crustacean Argulus foliaceus and A. japonicum. After working in the editorial staff of a scientific programm at the local tv-station Franken Fernsehen, she just starts to start a succsessfull career in journalism.

Martin "Märtel" Hofmann left our group in 1995. He pioneered our work on the ciliate Ichthyophthyrius multifiliis in his diploma-thesis. Märtel now workes in Stuttgart as clinical documentation assistant.

Anne Bansemir worked in our lab in 1995 as a guest-scientist from M. Sukdheo's lab at Rutgers. Anne studied host-finding of Diplostomum pseudospathaceum. She will not only be remembered for the introduction of Thanksgiving into the frankonian culture..

Bahman Saaedi left our group in 1995. He worked with the hunting tick Ornithodorus moubata in his diploma-thesis.

Christine Geis left our group in 1993. With her diploma-thesis, she uncovered some mysteries of the nonetheless still unsolved riddle of why and how cercariae of Schistosma orientate themselves towards the aminoacid Arginin.

Dirk Diekhoff left our group in 1993. In his diploma-thesis, he worked on the mechanisms of enzyme-release by Schistosoma mansonicercariae. Dirk is currently working at the local "3SOFT" company.

Monika Granzer left our group in 1989. After studying Schistosoma mansoni cercariae in her diploma-thesis, she crossed new frontiers with analysing host-finding mechanisms of skin-penetrating nematodes in her doctoral thesis. Monika is now working at PHARMACIA in Erlangen.
