Reaching the Institute

The Parasitology Division of the Zoology Department I is located in the biology building ("Biologikum") at the southern campus of the University Erlangen-Nürnberg. (Building A1, level 2, rooms 02.319-02.323). You can easily reach us by bus or car.

By Bus

From the Erlangen railway station take the bus line 287 to the terminus Sebaldussiedlung. This station is located at the Erwin-Rommel-Straße. (10-15 min)

From the Nürnberg main railway station take the bus line 9 to Nürnberg-Thon. Change to line 30/30E, leave the bus in Erlangen-Süd (40 min). From there, a short walk (7 min) along Egerlandstraße brings you to the Erwin-Rommel-Straße.

By car

From the autobahn Frankfurt-München (A3) take the exit Tennenlohe and drive about 2 km towards Erlangen. Head in direction Gräfenberg (turn right just after the bridge and then left) on the Kurt-Schuhmacherstrße. After about 2 km turn left into the Staudtstraße (after passing the traffic light). Turn left again into the parking-ground of the Biologikum (good luck finding parking space..) This map of the southern campus may help you (Note the arrow on the Kurt-Schuhmacherstraße on the right).

About Erlangen and Surroundings

If you still don't know exactly where Erlangen is located, click here for more detailed description. Erlangen is mainly composed of Siemens®, bicycles and the University. If you want other tourist information, check into the city of Erlangen homepage, or visit Nürnberg here. And what is so interesting in the more than 7000 fish ponds around Erlangen? They offer a broad spectrum of hosts with their rich fauna of birds, fish, amphibia, water snails, leeches, insects, planctonic organisms...., hosts which harbour crowds of wonderful parasites with a high diversity of life cycles. A unique paradise for Parasitologists (and also Ornithologists)! (By the way: we normally study parasitized carp in the Brauereigaststätte Rittmayer, one of the more than 300 small breweries in Frankonia).
